Once in California I became heavily involved in the Kairos prison ministry. The ministry always needed money so I put together a fund raising dinner that was attended by over 300 people.
I got a story in my head that I needed to write down. I wrote a play JESUS KNOWS THE BLUES about a guy getting out of prison and making it by hooking up with members of the Christian community and avoiding the bad guys that were trying to recruit him to the drug trade. I had envisioned having some cool songs of the day played at various parts of the performance.
I was quickly told by many that this was a dumb idea. They said I needed a band and live music. Fortunately, one of my friends from Kairos had a band and a wife with directorial skills. My simple play is now going to become a musical.
